Description
A moving film about Winnie Mandela, wife of ANC leader Nelson Mandela who had been serving a life sentence since 1964. She tells about her politcal views, her and Nelson’s history in politics, her own contribution to the struggle for a free South Africa, and the hardships this has brought to her life. The film also contains a statement by Nelson Mandela made in 1961, shots of the trails in 1962 and 1964, an interview with Dennis Goldberg, one of the eight who in 1964 was sentenced to life imprisonment, bit who was released after he accepted the conditions of the South African government, and an interview with Mandela’s daughter Zinzi, who tells about her life without a father and with a mother who is regularly arrested. Zinzi reads her father’s statement in in court in 1964, at the prison, and the film ends with Winnie reading her husband’s letters.
