Description
In February 1986 the Jewish dissident Anatoly Shcharansky was freed after more than nine years in Soviet jails and labour camps. His wife had been campaigning for his release since their wedding night, the last time they had met. Previous “World in Action” programmes about him also available are ‘A Calculated Risk’, filmed secretly 11 months before he was arrested, and ‘A Difficult Prisoner’, about his four month hunger strike. These earlier films may have helped to secure his eventual release.
