We first released this film in 1975 ( 46 years ago at this moment.) It is shocking how close we could have been to nuclear war catastrophe. Young John Pilger visits a Minuteman base in the USA and presents an awesome picture of the men and women who protect, nurse and are prepared to fire the nuclear missiles. When asked how they feel about their job, they never get beyond “ours is not to reason why – our country right or wrong”. Everything is phrased in cosy jargon .You don’t drop a bomb or fire a missile, but “deliver a package”. Deaths of thousands of innocent people is “ collateral damage”.
