For his opposition to this policy, Rashaka has been detained incommunicado for prolonged periods by security police on three occasions. He has been intimidated and threatened. His most recent detention was in 1984 during the making of this film. Rashaka spent twenty years as a migrant labourer in Johannesberg. He is a writer and a poet. In this film he takes us on a journey from his small rural village across the country to Johan- nesberg, showing us the political, economic and cultural background to the tensions and torments of his nation today.
