He and his wife run their farm on traditional self-sufficiency lines, and they visit US bases such as Molesworth, handing out leaflets to troops and police guards and risking arrest “‘The country is one whole military base”, says Howard, “and the vast majority of the population don’t give a damn what happens’. “The most ignoble thing that anyone can do is just stand on one side and do nothing”, he says, and with each convert comes at least a glimmer of hope for “it is better to light a small candle than to stand cursing the darkness’.
