Description

Hackney Toy Libraries Association, which has been running since 1974, has tried many new ideas and continues to develop its relationship with the community in interesting ways. Some of the (mostly volunteer) organisers talk about and reflect on their experiences.

Users are asked about why they come and what they like – is it the toys, companionship, advice, a way saving money – or what? The film begins and ends with street interviews and observes four toy libraries in action in different locations in the community. A useful film for generating ideas and raising discussion and helpful for people running or about to start a toy library.

Made in 1981 this film reflects the cultural attitudes of the country and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless. The film quality may not be to modern standards.
