Description

In the late 70’s there were four main news agencies: UPI, Agence France Presse, Reuter and AP.

Most newspapers are forced by financial pressures to make use of them. News is business and time is money, so news has to be priced so it can be sold on a mass scale. These agencies are multi-national enterprises; news is sold, translated and sold back to Latin America, for example. This is a far cry from journalists informing the public.
