Examines the influence of advertising on young peoples lives, affecting their self-image and conflicting with reasonable health choices. It encourages students to become more informed media consumers and demonstrates: how different forms of advertising and media encourage young consumers to smoke more, drink more, eat more unhealthy foods and take greater risks with sexual behaviour; how violent video games may make people more accepting of violence while increasing feelings of anxiety or vulnerability; the effects of media influence on body image, especially for girls.
