Description
The National Union of Farmers is said to be the most effective, well organised lobby in Britain. Farmers obtain large subsidies to grow, for example, barley, of which there are already thousands of tons of surplus, and they get grants to drain the Norfolk Broads, or they are paid not to do this if the environmentalists occasionally win. The farmers don’t lose, but is this public money being well spent?
