This film addresses the question ‘what is advocacy?’ It is for use with individuals who may be seeking an advocate, staff with an advocacy element to their job and for organisations looking to start their own service. It takes the day to day operation of a generic advocacy service in Merseyside as an example, and features individuals expressing their empowering experiences of the service that helped them to put their views across and get their voice heard. There is a question and answer session that raises issues about the delivery of a service which avoids labelling, does not keep files, offers an open referral system and allows individuals to decide for themselves whether or not to get an advocate. (Low budget production).
