Description

Nick Mazzoco was drafted into the US army and ordered to view 18 atomic explosions in the Nevada desert at very close range. He describes them as beautiful and horrible – the mushroom cloud itself, and seeing the skull and skeleton of the soldier next to him illuminated by the blinding flash, as in an x-ray. Includes some archive material of these tests. Nick talks of the confusion, mounting fear and anger as the enormity of his situation begins to dawn on him. A provocative film that will involve and inform all those interested in the experience of veterans, nuclear power and the health effects of ionising radiation, the history of the nuclear age, and issues involving human rights. USA. 1982
