This prize-winning television film follows three psychiatric patients as they seek their release from hospital. Filmed at Creedmore Psychiatric Centre in New York, the documentary reveals the dissatisfaction of patients, staff and relations with the attempts to combat the institutionisation of long-term hospital care. Whilst everyone agrees that these patients ought to be living in the outside world, the community proves a hostile and unsympathetic environment for the lonely men and women trying to cope for themselves. USA.
Made in 1979, the imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards, this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made, the issues raised are timeless.
