Description

The role of the social workers. Adequate care for people with learning disabilities is expensive, and more handicapped children live to be adults now than ever before. Even with day care the burden is very heavy on the family, as we can see in the case of 17 year old Andre, who has the mental age of a three month old baby. Parents are reluctant to place their children in institutions; they would prefer somewhere where parents could share responsibility, but such places hardly exist.

Part of The Do-Gooders series, a series of films about social work, its history, practices trends and developments.
This film is of historical interest but the issues raised are still current.
