Description
This film encourages people to look after their hearts and lungs. More people die of disease of the heart and blood vessels than from any other cause and much of this could be prevented, or at least delayed, if more people took more regular exercise. The heart and lungs service the body with supplies of fuel and oxygen and they have to respond rapidly to widely varying demands especially from the muscles. This is demonstrated by subjects in the laboratory, whose heart and lung activities are monitored as they ‘work’ by running on a treadmill. The programme deals with heart and arterial damage by arteriosclerosis often aggravated by overeating and lack of exercise and lung damage caused or aggravated by smoking and by air pollution.
