Some Babies Die
DVD1986 56 Minutes
Allowing parents and siblings to grieve for stillbirths and neonatal deaths
A sensitive film which shows the importance of allowing the parents and siblings contact with a dead infant, so that natural grieving can take place. Cosmo lived only a few hours after her birth, but the whole family were able to mourn her and express their feelings, with the help of Dr. Peter Barr, a doctor who specialises in this sort of counselling and who has lost two babies himself.
In contrast Donna, who has had three stillbirths in three years, was not allowed to see her first baby. Unresolved grief can be very destructive, coming out as depression, anger and bitterness. Australia
