Description
This World in Action programme takes a look at the medical service in UK prisons in the early 1980’s, and uncovers some rather disturbing cases, like the boy who had cancer while on remand for robbery, and the court was not informed. He was sentenced to borstal, and died soon afterwards. Unqualified officers are giving medical treatment to inmates, and there is no aqequate procedure for complaints. A lawyer claims that “the prison medical service is not there to serve the prisoner, it is there to serve the prison service.
