Description

Many parents maltreat their children, physically and emotionally, simply because they are unable to cope with the pressures of parenthood. The programme looks at three case histories, examining the problems which caused the child abuse and the means employed to relieve it. David and Linda from Northampton had very different ideas of parenting, also David refused to recognise Linda as a person in her own right.

Another Linda from Leicester became depressed and couldn’t bear her children’s crying and demanding behaviour. The third couple, Jim and Sheila from Coventry, both had special education and were unable to cope with the basic demands of home care. All these people were helped to cope with the problems and so become better parents.

This film is of historical interest and reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
