A rare success story in the realm of development aid. School leavers were to be trained in something, anything. Rather than ‘training’ without caring for the rest, the young couple of development workers combined traditional African knowledge and advanced European understanding of the power of the small and the soft, to bring the youngsters to raise the standard of living of the whole village by their work. With the help of trainees from the original village, the project is spreading throughout this region of Zambia.
