Richard St.Barbe Baker was still campaigning when he died at the age of 92. – “We have to plant forest trees for our lives”. He brings world attention to the alarming rate at which the world’s deserts are expanding, because of tree felling and overgrazing. Includes footage from his 1952 Sahara crossing and ecological survey, and other archive material that sketches his earlier life in forests of Canada, colonial Kenya and Nigeria, and the struggle for the Redwoods of California. It also shows his support of the Chipko people in India, and explores his involvement in New Zealand. At this time, value of tree in capturing carbon was not known.
