A course of six programmes designed for staff and parents of young mentally handicapped children, to guide them on how best to help the children learn through play. It illustrates the stages in play and the matching of activities to the child’s level and demonstrates how easy is to make simple toys or to modify existings ones. The six tapes deal with different aspects of play: exploratory, social, energetic, skilful and pretend, with the final one an interview. A handbook accompanies the course.

This film made in 1984 reflects the understanding and language with educational care of the era it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but can still be useful from a learning perspective.
