Clothespeak

Made in 1982, this film looks at different sub-cultures and their fashions, the films aims to rid us of pre-conceptions you may have for sub-culture social groups such as these, which continue to exist, evolve and change today with new ones appearing all the time.

Description

Style has become increasingly important. What you wear, how you look gives signals to other people. Established style groups such as Teds and Skinheads have been with us for years. Mods have been revived. Punks took us by surprise in the mid-seventies and still survive. In 1981 many disparate groups appeared, particularly the New Romantics. Other groups like Orange People and Rastafarians are noticable on the streets yet exist for cultural and religious reasons. This film sets out to rid us of pre-conceptions we may have faced by people whose appearance is out of the ordinary.

The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for historical use.
