Description

A video for promoting discussion issues related to unemployment. It includes a historic perspective on the changing nature of work. A long-term unemployed person tells what it feels like to be unemployed. There is a statement on the role and importance of local action by churches (Canon Berry, Coventry Cathedral). Examples of churches sponsoring Manpower Services Commision Youth Training Schemes and Community Programme Work (Coventry, Norwich) are given. There is also an example of churches identifying with unemployed people to establish a resource/activity centre, unrelated to the provision of conventional work (impasse Centre, Redcar, Cleveland).

The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for historical use.
