Description
Filmed in 1979, this film looks at the health and safety challenges with furniture for fire risks.
The padding used in furniture of this era was high inflammable but manufacturers were reluctant to stop using it, some local authorities had banned the use of this furniture in public buildings.
In this film, we hear how children had died by suffocating on the fumes before anyone had time to rescue them, and a test is done on a sofa, which burns very easily.
Trade unions and M.Ps of the time were trying to get the law changed.
This film made in 1979 reflects the political situation at the time. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for archival use.
