Made in 1972, this films looks at the moral dilemmas attached to nuclear weapons and the future weapons and warfare which could suceed them.

It was predicted that by the late 1980s, 25 nations would have nuclear capabilities. This film made in 1972, looked at the near future and the United States’ plan to turn the responsibility of launching a massive retaliation strike over to computers.

Dr Jerome B. Weisner of MIT explains how an automatic process can be accidentally triggered. Dr Donald G. Brennan, former President of the Hudson Institute and a leading weapons development theorist, believes the future scope of warfare will involve the moon, the sea and even the elements which make up the weather – ‘environmental warfare’ . The film closes with an examination of war protests in the USA.
