Description
Acid Rain occurs as a result of air-borne pollution. Industries which burn coal and oil, for example, release sulphur and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere and often over long distances. The oxides combine with moisture in the atmosphere to form dilute acids and these return to earth as rain or snow. Plant life is killed off, fish die and in Scandinavia and Canada wholes lakes are being destroyed. Buildings too are sometimes affected by the acid and the constant erosion means many buildings are crumbling away. Is enough concern being shown to take action to check this disastarous trend?
This film made in 1982 shows the scientific and technical understanding of the time and may not reflect current understanding or practices. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
