Description

Made before online apps, this video shows Village Appraisals and Parish Maps.

Village Appraisals are a systematic ‘stock-take’ of the resources and services in community using a local questionaire survey. Two examples are shown, from the Dene Valley near Bishop Auckland, Co Durham and from Motcombe, Dorset.

Parish Maps use maps, pictures or any form of art and craftwork to illustrate the natural or human-made features of a parish that people care about. Two examples are given from Buckland Newton in Dorset and Lockwood in Cleveland.

The video and its accompanying information pack encourage local people to use appraisals and maps to help shape and safeguard the future of their communities and to bring together the different views and feelings which make up the local jigsaw of community life.
