In most cases of divorce or separation, mothers are awarded custody of children. But increasingly, former spouses are choosing shared custody (an option legally available in 27 states in America), which ideally enables parents to divide both the joys and responsibilities of parenthood.
The film profiles the newest approach to child custody by exploring three different arrangements in which divorced or separated couples share equal responsibility for raising their children, and provides insights into the rewards and hardships of co-parenting as well as how society and the legal profession often resist this unconventional approach. “Love is when a man meets a woman and falls in love. This film is of historical interest and reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
