Description
Puts forward the case that traditionally in Britain all basic political and civil freedoms have had to be fought for (such as gaining the right to vote) and that civil and political rights that do exist have never been protected by law. Argues that the Public Order Bill, giving the police more powers to control protest, is a further example of how vulernable basic civil rights are to changes in the law. Also examines how such terms as “in the national interest” and “the British Way of Life” can be defined, and which groups are exclused from those definitions and the protection of the law.
