In the Name of Charity
DVD1985 52 Minutes
A large family of adopted children.
Mrs Jeanette Roberts has 22 children. All are adopted or waiting for adoption; most have been abused or rejected by the parents, and are difficult to place, yet she has had remarkable success (she appeared in 'Taking the Lid Off' about child abuse). The family moved to a larger house in the Essex countryside, near a hospital home for people who had had leprosy, and had become institutionalised. A remarkable friendship sprang up between the two groups, but this was forbidden by the charity who owned the property, so the film ends on a negative note of what might have been.
