A demonstration of two techniques used for saying goodbye to, or resolving unfinished business with someone who has died – the letter and the empty chair. A young woman whose mother is dead expresses her feelings of bitterness and resentment at the way she had been treated by her, first by writing a letter, and then by addressing an empty chair as if her mother were present. When her emotions have been expressed the bitterness leaves her and she is able to say goodbye to her mother.
This film is of historical interest but the issues raised are still current. The film quality may not be to modern standards.’
