Church and the Bomb

This programme examines the views on both sides of the nuclear weapons debate within the Church of England itself back in 1982.

Description

The report which was published in 1982 by the Church of England clearly stated that nuclear weapons are immoral, and that end should renounce unilaterally. This programme examines views on both sides. Arguments about deterrence are set against those pointing at the Christian ideas of immorality of killing, maiming and longterm poisoning of both people and the environment which the threat to use nuclear weapons entails. While made before the General Synod met in 1983, the issues involved are still very much a matter of debate within the church.

The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for historical use.
