Description
‘Evidence? Their fear is the evidence…” This powerful portrait of racial harassment in the London Borough of Hackney is built around interviews with black people who have suffered abuse, graffiti, threats and violence from fellow council tenants in one of the most deprived areas of inner London. Their stories are interwoven with graphic reconstructions and fantasy sequences. Police, community leaders and council representatives all express their revulsion at racial intimidation and explain how they are trying to combat it. There are, of course, no simple answers, but possible responses put forward include very rapid repairs of damage and removal graffiti, careful recording of incidents, and declaring those responsible to be “intentionally homeless”.
The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for historical use.
