Description

This film is introduced by Terry Wogan, Chairman of this Charity’s Appeals committtee. In no way is it a begging film, rather an insight into the work of Arthritis Care – the only national voluntary organisation (of the time) devoted solely to the welfare and rehabilitation of arthritis sufferers. Few people realise that arthritis can any age. Youngsters are filmed while undergoing treatment in hospital. The young chairman of the Under 35 Group tells of problems and frustrations that rheumatoid arthritis can cause people like herself with young children to care for. A sufferer of systemic lupus eryhematosus talks about her illness and how the Lupus Group charity’s local branches and are taken on holiday with a group of members visiting one of the specially adapted holiday centres in Blackpool. The film captures something of the enthusiasm which inspires more than 3,000 voluntary workers to give up their time to helping arthristis sufferers through the branch network.

Suitable for showing to elderly people themselves, and there caring for them. This film made in 1985 reflects the medical understanding and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for archival use.
