This programme takes a different approach to disasters in Africa. It is presented almost as a requiem for that part of the continent which is already dead – land and people. The images are powerful, definitive of the suffering Ethiopia and other countries, but also lyrical in their poignancy. Comment comes from key political figures in Africa, such as President Julius Nyerere of Tanzania and President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia, who says: ’Man has no right to live if he does not do so in hope’. The film is essentially a psalm for the dying continent – an appeal to the world.
