Exploring the nature of non-violence in many contexts, from quarrels between neighbours to long-term political strategy. The tapes raise many questions concerning both the practicality and ethics of non-violence. Complete with detailed teaching/discussion notes. Suitable for any groups looking at alternatives to violence.
1. A Door in the Wall looks at Communication, mediation and reconciliation. With examples from Northern Ireland (filmed both sides of the peace line on the Falls Road, Shankhill Road, the Divis Flats, Corrymeela, peace and reconciliation centre), Israel, London and Greenham Common (was shot around the base and focussed on the experiences of the women in occupation) and Molesworth peace camps.
2. Common Ground Focuses on responsibility, resistance and change. Includes footage from Nicaragua, The Philippines, South Africa, Northern Ireland, and the Greenham Common and Molesworth peace camps.
The Zamami Soweto Sisters and Ellen Kuzwayo were filmed on location in Brixton Gallery at the exhibition of their quilts of resistance against apartheid and material was included from Neve Shalom a kibbutz jointly founded by Israeli and Palestinian co-operators.
