This film shows ways in which older people can take the initiative in controlling many aspects their own health. The importance of maintaining mobility and social contact is emphasised, as weII as the benefit of active participation in the promotion of good health and the prevention of illness. This shift away from passive dependence towards positive self-health is described from the point of view of those working with older people, as well as through the eyes of older people themselves.
We see three individuals who have successfully adjusted to some of the changes associated with getting on in life. There are examples of the crucial involvement of health visitors, community workers, and physiotherapists in promoting initiatives such as regular screening sessions for blood pressure and weight.
