Theories of Social Work Practice: The Feminist Perspective - Daphne Stratham
DVD1992 55 Minutes
Challenges stereotypes and assumptions.
Accepting the unpredictable, and challenging stereotypes and assumptions are part of the feminist perspective. There is still an inbuilt bias towards male power. Women are still at a disadvantage; the jobs traditionally done by women, such as child care, and other caring, are undervalued. Depression can be caused by repressing their anger and turning it in on themselves. Some improvements are taking place. Depression is better understood, and part time work is more common.
This film is of historical interest and reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
