Description
Fed up with being represented as ‘mad, bad, and dangerous’, or ‘helpless, useless and worthless’?
Sick of docs on the box speaking on behalf of users and survivors?
Do you feel you lack the skills to successfuly challenge the media?
The Hit the Headlines film gives users and survivors the inspiration to start working with the media.
The 22-minute film features interviews with users and survivors on their experiences of successful media work, and on the risk and challenges of getting involved with the media. It also includes interviews with journalists from local, regional and national print and broadcast media on what they need to put a story together.
With examples of successful media coverage gained by user/suvivor groups and advice from journalists. The film covers press releases, interview technique, the media landscape, news values, media law, confidentiality, and – most importantly – safety and support.
“Hit the Headlines is an excellent resource which give you the low-down on how to get the most out of contacts with the media.
By learning how to have an effective voice in the local or national media, user/survivor groups can make a big difference to their work. The US network is proud of it’s successful campaign to stop a new ETC suite being built at a local cospital. This was made possible through coverage of our protest vigil in The Cambrian News”
Dr Steve Craine, All Wales User and Survivor Network.
