Description

The significance of the funeral ceremony for the bereaved. Funerals can be an important focus for grief, and support for the mourners. Winifred Renford, who had died suddenly, was buried in accordance with the traditions of the West Indian community, where the whole neighbourhood attended, to show respect and support for her family. Jean Corke was cremated after a special service in the church for which she had chosen all the readings and hymns herself.
Made in 1982 this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless.
