Description

It is estimated that 1800 Yanomami Indians have died from malaria and related diseases since 1987 as a result of contact with the 4500 Brazilian miners who have invaded their land in search of gold. This documentary, shot in one of the most remote corners of the Brazilian Amazon, graphically depicts the devastating impact of contact on an isolated indigenous tribe. Filmed by Geoffrey O’Connor, who was smuggled into the territory, from which journalists are banned.
