Description
This is a discussion film for use by social workers with groups of parents who may be considering fostering or adopting older or handicapped children. The film is structured so that it can be used for teaching purposes, section by section. It is an exploration of the feelings of families and the points they make are reinforced throughout the film by the personal experiences of two people, now adult, who were in care during their childhood. The sections of the film are: The Need; Meeting the Need; Labelling: The Past; Testing; Building Confidence.
Made in 1997 this film reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
