Description

Moving television play about a man with learning disabilities at the mercy of society’s unfeeling attitudes. As a teenager, he learns through his own efforts and those of his mother how to read, write and even hold down a humble job. But he is unable to cope when his parents die. The only path open to him in the early 1960’s leads through the forbidding doors of a long-stay psychiatric hospital.

This film is of historical interest and reflects the cultural attitudes, medical procedures and language of the time it was made. The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards. But the issues raised are timeless.
