Description

There were 1200 Pathans (also known as Pashtuns or Pakhtuns). Bound by a common language, a common heritage and the all-powerful unifying spirit of Islam, they have never acknowledged the political boundaries imposed by the states in which they live. The Pathans are governed by Afghanistan and Pakistan. The film looks at those living in Pakistan, close to the Afghan border. As a people they are very individualistic, they live by the rule of village councils and accept no imposed leadership from outside. They are loyal to their kin and will fight and kill for the honour of their family. Such people make formidable enemies as once the British experienced and then the Russians discovering to their cost.
This film is of historical interest but the issues raised are still current.
