Description

Jonathan Dimbleby’s searching analysis of the human implications of the escalating nuclear arms race. The film moves from the “Hibakusha” (survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) in Japan to the computerised weapons systems of the US military, spanning both time and space as it traces the evolution of the Bomb. Many facets of the recently revived nuclear arms debate are considered, including the emergence of ominous “theatre” of “limited” nuclear warfare theories, and the growing opposition to both these and the absurdities of the Civil Defence programme. A comprehensive and moving documentary.

The imagery and film quality may not be to modern standards but is useful for historical use.
