Description

Research has shown that children from ethnic minority groups are more likely to succeed generally, and to acquire particular skills in the reading of English, if they are kept aware of their cultural background and are encouraged to be fluent and literate in their mother tongues. This film illustrates how folk tales and reminiscences from the living oral traditions of adults in multicultural communities can be of educational value to all children whatever their cultural background.
Made in 1986 this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless.
