Britain is one of the few countries where suicide is declining. Many people attribute this to the Samaritans – volunteers who answer telephones around the clock to help the desperate. This programme examines the work of one Samaritan branch and tries to assess the impact of this unique organisation.
Made in 1978 this film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless and the work of the Samaritans continues.
