Description

Swaffham, Norfolk, December 1958: the first non-violent civil disobedience action at a rocket base in Britain now available on DVD. This was the only film record of this historic event, and payment for its use on television was responsible for the birth of Concord Films Council. Non-violent resisters met with brutal opposition from workers at the base, but still remained cheerful and friendly, and returned the following week to continue their protest, as police dragged them through the freezing mud. Many ended up in jail. The techniques of non-violent resistance are clearly shown. Part silent.

This film was made in 1959 in black and white, so the film and sound quality is not to modern standards. This should not diminish its value as a historic record.
