Description
The progress of a real patient who was greatly troubled by this condition. She initially presents with two phobias, of peanuts and glass, but later on refers to hand washing and other rituals. Edited highlights illustrate aspects of behavioural psychotherapy (graded exposure for the treatment of phobias). The hand washing is tackled with response prevention. Discussion of the triggering and maintaining factors, and the dangers of any psychotherapeutic endeavour is also included.
Made in 1997 this film reflects the cultural attitudes of the country and language of the time it was made. The issues raised are timeless. The film quality may not be to modern standards.
