Description

Dieting is often seen as the only way to lose weight. This film examines another answer, an anti-diet answer – a compulsive eating therapy group. Susie Orbach, psychotherapist and author of “Fat is a Feminist Issue” (a manual on compulsive eating therapy) describes her approach, based on discovery of the emotional reasons for over-eating. In a therapy session with a group of women, the theme is FOOD… cream doughnuts, jars of peanut butter. Through fantasy and discussion, the women make surprising discoveries about their unconscious feelings for food and what lies behind the craving to eat too much.
This film reflects the cultural attitudes and language of the time it was made, but we feel it is still relevant.
