Description
Filmed in two communes around the city of Wuxi in southeastern China, it looks at the new emphasis on material incentives after years of Maoist austerity. The new policies which relate earnings to productivity bring unaccustomed wealth to the peasants, and families talk frankly in this film about how these extraordinary changes are affecting their lives.
Part of the Inside China series. Unique in showing Chinese life a generation ago
